Our basketball season has come to an end, but there is still much to talk about! Several of our accomplished student athletes have earned notable awards and have taken the spotlight. In addition to that, both the boys and girls teams had fantastic seasons with standout results. Way to go, Hawks!
The TGS boys’ basketball team finished 29-2 for the season. Highlights included winning both the Boyd Baker and Tucson Cactus Classic tournaments. Their season ended in the state championship game with their second loss of the season to NFL Yet Academy. Senior Nick Rosquist has taken over the third spot in the Southern Arizona Career Scoring List with 2,115 career points. It was fun to watch him pass the 2,000 mark during a game at Desert Christian!
The 2016-17 Lady Hawks made it to the Final Four of the 1A State Championship. Taylor Thompson led the way with 21 points and 5 assists. The girls were disappointed to come up only 3 points short of a victory but playing in front of over 5,000 people in the Prescott Event Center was an experience that they will remember for a lifetime. Taylor Thompson became one of the few, in Arizona girls’ basketball, to score 1,000 points in only three years. She also finished as the 1A State Player of the Year. The girls’ team finished with a record of 21-9.
Additionally, senior Elaine Wright was honored as the Taco Bell Student Athlete Citizen Award as promoted by Fox Sports Arizona. The organization came to campus to present the award and to shoot some photos and film for their online and television spots. Take a look at the preview of their airing!
