Recognizing that excellence is best achieved when pursued across all facets of a young person's life, The Gregory School offers outstanding interscholastic athletic opportunities in a variety of sports. Through hard work and discipline, and with an emphasis on sportsmanship, student-athletes gain valuable experience in teamwork, as well as in identifying and working toward individual and team goals. Athletic opportunities abound at both the Upper School and Middle School levels and are always carefully balanced to be part of a comprehensive program with a proper emphasis on academic success. With most teams offering both Varsity and Junior Varsity squads to best provide positive athletic experiences for all interested students, Upper School sports include boys' and girls' cross country, girls' golf, boys' and girls' swimming, and girls' volleyball in the Fall; boys’ soccer; and boy’s and girl’s basketball in the winter; and boys' and girls' track & field, boys' golf, boys’ volleyball and girls' and boys' tennis in the Spring. Competing in Arizona Interscholastic Association-sanctioned sports, The Gregory School has a glowing history of success on a statewide level, in both team sports and individual achievements, including back-to-back boys' basketball titles in 2008 and 2009, again in 2018 and 2019 and the girls' pole vault title in 2013. Participating on an interscholastic basis—also with multiple teams per sport—Middle School students have their choice of girls' volleyball, boys' or girls' tennis, and flag football (for both girls and boys) in the Fall; girls' softball and boys' and girls' soccer in the Winter; and track and field or basketball for both boys and girls in the Spring. Middle-school teams have also won several Tucson Independent Athletic League championships. We make every effort to offer top-level coaching in every sport and complement that effort by providing top-level transportation, and outstanding athletic facilities. Hawk student-athletes use the tennis and swimming facilities at nearby Ft. Lowell Park, with the rest of the sports taking place on outstanding on-campus facilities. At the center of it all is the gym, complete with a workout center that features free weight, aerobic and resistance-training equipment. With a majority of our students involved in one or more sports, The Gregory School community is constantly working to build on past success to help achieve future greatness. Program The Gregory School believes that participation in athletics is instrumental in helping students mature. In addition to promoting the objective of achieving physical fitness, we make an effort to develop the important skills of self-discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Facilities Athletic facilities include playing fields for soccer, baseball, and softball, for volleyball and basketball, and two outdoor basketball courts. The gymnasium can seat nearly 1,000 fans and features aerobic, free-weight, and variable-resistant equipment. Sports Our award-winning and comprehensive athletic program is inclusive in nature. Multiple levels of several teams are offered for both girls and boys in an attempt to provide an opportunity for all interested students.
