8th Grader and Tax Credit Scholarship Recipient
Did you earn $30,000 or more this year in income?
If you answered “yes,” you probably have Arizona State Tax liability and can make a tax credit contribution!
Did you know that over 40% of The Gregory School students receive need-based financial assistance?
Individual tax credits provide approximately $500,000 in support of these students. The tax credit generates critical revenue for our school and can only be used for tuition.
Through the Tuition Tax Credit program, taxpayers in Arizona can choose to allocate a portion of their state tax obligation to support deserving students at The Gregory School.
Married taxpayers filing jointly may contribute up to $2,173.
Single taxpayers may contribute up to $1,087.
Contributions are made to the Arizona Independent School Scholarship Foundation (AISSF) and designated to The Gregory School.
Your contribution may be deducted, dollar-for-dollar, when you file your Arizona state tax return.
Contributions must be received by April 15, 2017 to be eligible for a deduction on your 2016 taxes.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
What is the School Tuition Tax Credit?
A.R.S. AZ 43-1089.01 provides a credit against state income tax obligations for Arizona taxpayers who make a contribution to a qualified School Tuition Organization. The maximum contribution is $2,173 for married taxpayers and $1,087 for single taxpayers. This contribution will be credited dollar-for-dollar against your Arizona income tax. To be eligible for this tax credit for the 2016 tax year, the contribution must be made by April 15, 2017.
How does a tax credit differ from a tax deduction?
A credit reduces your Arizona taxes dollar-for-dollar, while a deduction reduces the taxable income upon which the taxes are calculated.
How do I get my tax credit?
A tax credit is subtracted directly from the income tax owed to the state. The credit is taken directly off of your state tax return when you file. For example, if your tax obligation is $4000 and you make a $1000 tax credit to AISSF for The Gregory School, you only owe $3000 in Arizona State taxes. It can also increase your refund.
May I also make a tax credit contribution to the public schools?
Yes, please do. We encourage you to support public schools and the working poor with tax credits as well.
