2...4...6…8…Who Do We Appreciate?

The Gregory School Family Association appreciates our very special community–and is only successful because of all the wonderful parent, family, teacher, and student volunteers that help along the way! This school year, more than 150 family members helped out in some way. Thank you!

All TGS parents are members of the Family Association and we don’t charge any dues. Our goal is to connect TGS families with the faculty and staff for the growth of our community and the success of our children. We host events for the school community, promote grade-level activities, and offer opportunities to show appreciation to the TGS faculty and staff.

So how does the FA do all this exactly?

Celebrating With the Whole TGS Community

The FA works hard to make sure the entire TGS community can enjoy time together throughout the year!

  • In the fall, we organize Homecoming, including decorating the school and putting on a Homecoming celebration featuring school club booths, inflatables, food and other activities, and welcome TGS families to spend the afternoon and evening on campus.
  • In the spring, we host the Spring Family Dinner where we welcome TGS families to eat together, enjoy the music of the jazz band, browse (and possibly purchase!) the amazing artwork and photography of our students, take in the dance performance and more. This is a wonderful end-of-year tradition where the whole community can gather in a relaxed and celebratory way.
  • We organize the Winter Formal dance, usually around February, for the Upper School students to socialize, dress up (or not!) and dance the night away.
  • Throughout the year, all TGS families are invited to three general meetings per semester where we share updates and information about what's happening on campus. We also invite faculty and staff members to discuss areas of interest to parents.
  • Over the summer, we contact new TGS families as we approach the start of each school year to welcome them and share information about back-to-school events.
How Does the FA Support Grade Level Community Building?
  • For every grade level, we recruit a parent class representative, or sometimes, co-reps. These parent volunteers keep families informed through parent-to-parent communications and host grade-level events, usually with the help of other parents in the class.
  • Class reps often make those back-to-school calls to new families in their grade, and class reps and FA volunteers can be seen welcoming new and returning families on Registration Day every Fall!
  • We provide seed money to class representatives to support gatherings like class meetups, end-of-year parties, or back-to-school breakfasts.
  • While not an official school event, we lend some logistical and financial support to parents who are organizing Senior Grad Night, a safe celebration for our seniors on graduation night.
Appreciation and Support for our TGS Faculty and Staff

Our faculty and staff are one of the things that make TGS so special. The FA, with help from the whole family community, shows them the love all year round!

  • The day before Thanksgiving break, we put on an expansive Farmers’ Market right on campus. We invite faculty and staff to ‘shop’ for their holiday meals at no charge. This is one of our most popular FA traditions!
  • During finals week in December and May, we “Stock the Lounge” with snacks and small gifts for faculty and staff members. Turns out teachers get hungry giving exams!
  • We give gift cards to faculty and staff before the Winter break to wish them some well-deserved rest and again at the end of the school year.
  • We offer special ways to express gratitude, like the “Appreciation Trees” we installed, where community members could write “Thank You Leaves” to faculty and staff letting them know how valued they are.
  • Whenever a faculty member expresses a need for parent volunteers for a special event or class activity, we recruit those volunteers to fill the need.
  • Along these lines, the FA recruits parent volunteers to cover Lunch Duty on Tuesdays so that every teacher has the opportunity to meet together once a week for the all-faculty meeting.
Upcoming Events–See you there!

In addition to the spring Stock the Lounge, we have two events coming up before the end of the school year:

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION COFFEE
On April 16 right after drop off, we will host our annual Volunteer Appreciation Coffee on the front lawn. All 150 of this year’s volunteers received invitations, but we also welcome anyone interested in volunteering next school year.

SPRING FAMILY DINNER
On May 8, all TGS families are invited to our annual Spring Family Dinner at 5 p.m. The evening will feature an outdoor dinner, music by TGS student groups, a dance performance and a display of Middle School and Upper School projects. There is no cost to attend, but you do need to RSVP to the email invitation you received.

The Family Association is a fun and active group through which we share our appreciation for The Gregory School and work to make the school even stronger. We are grateful for our many volunteers and we are happy to answer any questions you may have. Contact the executive committee at fa@gregoryschool.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
